What is Dynamic Eating Psychology?

Dynamic Eating Psychology (DEP) is a crucial piece of my program. It addresses weight concerns, binge eating, overeating, body image challenges, and various nutrition-related concerns in my clients. The concept originates with the founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating (IPE), Marc David. This is a positive, empowering, and transformative approach to achieving health and wellness. Each of us has a unique, ever-changing relationship with food (it’s a love-hate relationship). DEP affirms the importance of this relationship as it sees our challenges with eating, weight, and health not as a sign that we’re broken, but as a beautiful opportunity to grow and evolve.

In past years, eating psychology has been limited to only those suffering from clinical eating disorders; however, Dynamic Eating Psychology is for everyone. It encourages the idea that our relationship with food has important lessons to teach us about our overall life. Practicing DEP allows us to recognize that our challenges with eating, weight, and health are intimately connected to other primary life dimensions— our relationships, family life, work, sexuality, our search for meaning and fulfillment, and that’s only scratching the surface.

What is Mind-Body Nutrition?

Mind-Body Nutrition (MBN) is the other half of the eating psychology dream team that comprises my approach to health and wellness. MBN is an exciting new field—one that also originated with Marc David—that advances the practice of clinical nutrition by exploring the psychophysiology of how thoughts, feelings, and beliefs impact nutritional metabolism and health.

I am so excited to offer MBN as the second critical component of my approach as it, going far beyond the teachings of classical nutrition, focuses on the intricate connections between your brain, your body, and your behavior.

Simply put, WHAT we eat is only half the story of good nutrition.
The other half is WHO we are as eaters.

Mind-Body Nutrition reveals how stress physiology, the relaxation response, breathing, awareness, pleasure, meal-timing, and much more profoundly influence digestion and calorie-burning. This approach offers practical, results-oriented strategies for the most commonly seen eating challenges and health issues of our times.
